- Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters (Colossians 3:23-24)
Recently I've had some interesting encounters with employees, friends, and acquaintances in the area of job performance. Watching people do their work is an interesting gauge of someone's character. I have one friend who is going out of his way to make sure his profession continues to have a good name, and another friend who is cutting as many corners as he can to make a deal go through.
I've watched contractors decide it's easier to skimp by.
I've seen IT guys who cut corners where they know clients won't notice.
I've witnessed bankers deliberately add in minute cost structures so their firm can make just a little more money on transactions.
And all for what??
As I was driving to work this morning, I took a quick inventory of my own heart and just asked the Lord, "Am I doing everything you've called me to do?"
In other words, Am I working for the glory of God? Or, am I working for the glory of man?
Am I doing my work well? Or, am I doing my job to try and 'get ahead?' (whatever that means.)
As I was praying this morning, I thought it would be a good time to encourage all my readers here at andybraner.com to work as though you're working unto the Lord. Whatever job He's called you to do, do it in the right way.
I'll never forget hearing General Norman Schwarzkopf giving a commencement speech at a well endowed University. After the first Gulf War, the President asked the General, "What is the one biggest piece of advice you can give to our graduates?" And he replied, "Just do the right thing. If we all just do the right thing, life tends to work out."
So today, I just encourage you, DO THE RIGHT THING. It may not be the most convenient. It may not be the most profitable idea at the time. You may even need to go back and re-do something you've already done to make it right. But if we DO THE RIGHT THING as to represent ourselves before the Lord, the world will take notice.
They'll know we can be trusted.
They'll know we are people who care for others.
They'll know we love our neighbor.
They'll see something different about us.
Today's motto: DO THE RIGHT THING!!
