Last night was our annual Barn Dance night at KIVU. For those who've never experienced the thrill of a western party in a barn built in the early turn of the century, well...let's just be honest...you're really missing out on something magical! HA!
This final week here of the two week term has been incredible. We've explored ways to help teenagers understand how to choose adventure, see God in a a real way, and develop friendships that will last longer than the two week term they've committed to here.
Every term I'm amazed how the group dynamics shape what each student learns out here in Colorado. They start wide eyed and full of anxious anticipation, and then after the week goes on, I'm thrilled when they find rest.
I told the group from the first day, I felt like teenagers today are being pressured "to be" from all angles. From sports to social events, academics to athletics, and throw in a bit of hormonal change, and you have the recipe for someone who lives in a stress tank.
My hope this term was the teenagers here could find a place where they could rest their soul. They white water rafted, biked, hiked, and some even skied up on our mountain lake, but in the end I spoke to a student yesterday, and he told me, "this is just what I needed and I didn't even know it."
So as we dance the term away, you can rest assured, these kids got the best of what KIVU has to offer. They had a chance to explore the adventures of Colorado. They had a chance to engage intentional relationships with each other. AND, they had the opportunity to rest in the Journey of knowing Who God is, and Why it matters.
I hope your summer is going well.
We'd love to have you out here at KIVU. If it gets too hot over there on the east coast, or the summer swell of humidity has you singing the blued; just click over to www.campkivu.com, and you can come and rest too.
